How to Select a Valve for Your Engine

How to Select a Valve for Your Engine

Didn't see your engine listed in our Frequently Recommended Solutions Chart? As we don't list all your engine solutions available you can give us a call or learn how to spec out your engine for a KP Pushbutton or Remote Access kit below.

Step 1: Locate the Sampling Port

Common install locations for the KP is either on the oil filter housing or the oil gallery.

Step 2: Get the Port Size

The port size will determine which size KP will be needed. If you need help measuring the port, we have a step by step guide to determine thread size.

Determine if a Remote Access Kit is Needed

Can you safely and comfortably fit a sampling bottle where the port is located? When the port to obtain the best representative sample is not readily available to sample from, we recommend a remote access kit. The port may not be accessible due to a cab or chassis, or it may be located behind something else. The remote access kit allows you to use a hose assembly to extend from the recommended port to an accessible location where it can be securely mounted.

KP Direct Installation Example on a Cummins ISX

If a direct install is possible you can use your thread size to determine which KP Sampling Valve to order for your engine. We’ve listed some common direct install KP sizes in the chart below:

KP Part # Thread Size
KP14NV 1/4" NPT Go to Product Page
KP18NV 1/8" NPT Go to Product Page
KP716UV 7/16" ORB Go to Product Page
KP916UV 9/16" ORB Go to Product Page
KP1415MV M14x1.5 Go to Product Page

Step 4: ONLY When Remote Access is Needed - Determine the Hose Length

You will need to measure the distance between the port and the location where the valve will be securely mounted. We have a bracket available (TB CLAMP1) to assist with mounting the valve.
